My background is in information, communication and journalism.
After eight years editing a professional magazine and four years editing a news website, I joined the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) as head of communications & external affairs in 2004. I managed all communications relating to the restructure of the organisation and worked closely with BIFM’s publishing partner to ensure the Institute’s new magazine, FM World, got off to a great start. I also managed the briefing, design, development and roll-out of the current website.
I joined the Board in 2007 and masterminded the Institute’s new corporate identity, adopted in 2009. Since then, as director of corporate & public affairs, I focused on raising the profile of FM with Government and business through consultation, direct representation and joint working with industry and professional bodies.
Working with a political consultancy, I drafted position papers on energy and skills and led a number of delegations to Whitehall and City Hall.
I was part of the working group that created the Global FM alliance in 2006 and chaired its communications directors group. I also chaired the editorial board of EuroFM Insight from May 2010. More recently I chaired EuroFM’s Vision & Strategy taskforce
In May 2012 I joined Magenta Associates – the specialist communications agency for the workplace, facilities management and support services sectors started by ex-FM World editor Cathy Hayward.
I left Magenta to go freelance in 2014.
